Buy Gold Coins Online — Every Major Sovereign Mint, Every Size
Gold bullion coins are the most recognized form of investment-grade gold in the world. Issued by sovereign governments and minted to precise standards, they carry legal tender status, global resale recognition, and the credibility of some of the oldest and most respected minting institutions on earth. Fresh Desert Gold Co. carries a comprehensive selection of gold bullion coins across four fractional sizes — 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz — covering every major issuing mint: the US Mint, Royal Canadian Mint, Perth Mint, The Royal Mint of the United Kingdom, Austrian Mint, South African Mint, and China Gold Coin Corporation.
Our coin selection spans the most widely traded bullion coin series in the world. The American Gold Eagle is the official gold bullion coin of the United States and the single most recognized gold coin in North America. The American Gold Buffalo is the US Mint's pure .9999 fine gold coin — the first 24-karat gold coin ever produced by the United States. The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, produced since 1979, is the most-traded gold coin globally. The South African Krugerrand, first minted in 1967, is the coin that created the modern gold bullion coin market. The Austrian Philharmonic, British Britannia, Australian Kangaroo, and Chinese Gold Panda each bring their own minting heritage, design distinction, and collector following.
Gold Coins by Size — Which to Choose
The most practical starting point for most investors is the 1 oz gold coin — it is the most liquid, most recognized, and most traded fractional format. Every dealer worldwide accepts one-ounce coins. They are easy to value (one coin equals one troy ounce of gold at current spot), easy to store, and well-understood on resale. If you are building a gold position for the first time or adding to an existing holding, 1 oz coins give you maximum flexibility.
Half-ounce coins offer a middle ground between the full-ounce standard and smaller fractional sizes. They carry the same minting credibility and legal tender status as full-ounce coins, at approximately half the price per piece, with the added advantage of being able to sell or trade individual coins without liquidating a full ounce. Quarter-ounce and tenth-ounce coins push the entry point lower still — putting certified sovereign-mint gold within reach at significantly reduced per-coin cost, with the trade-off of a higher premium per troy ounce than larger formats.
Gold Coins vs Gold Bars — The Real Differences
Both gold coins and gold bars contain .9999 fine investment-grade gold (with the exception of the Gold Eagle and Krugerrand, which are 22-karat / .9167 fine). The practical differences are premium, liquidity, and recognition. Gold bars carry lower premiums per ounce — making them more cost-efficient for pure accumulation. Gold coins carry legal tender status and stronger name recognition in the general public — making them, in some contexts, easier to sell quickly and at full market value to a wider range of buyers. Many serious investors hold both: bars for bulk accumulation efficiency, coins for liquidity and recognition.
Proof coins represent a third category — specially struck collector editions with mirror-like finishes and frosted designs, sold in official presentation boxes with Certificates of Authenticity. We carry the Proof Gold Eagle and Proof Gold Buffalo from the US Mint, including the four-coin Proof Eagle set. These hold both bullion value and collectible premium.
Shipping, Insurance, and Handling
Every gold coin order ships fully insured from one of our secure US fulfillment facilities. Coins are carefully packaged in tamper-evident outer packaging inside discreet, unbranded shipping boxes. Live tracking is provided for every order, and signature confirmation is required on delivery. Our Arizona-based team personally reviews every order before it ships — this is a family-owned operation, not a warehouse, and the care we take with your order reflects that.
Pricing — Daily Spot Rate, No Inflated Premiums
Gold coin prices are updated daily based on the live gold spot rate. The premium over spot reflects minting costs, legal tender production standards, and distribution — not inflated dealer margins. We price competitively against larger dealers and encourage you to compare. Payment must be completed within 24 hours to lock in your price. We accept ACH bank transfer, wire transfer, and card payments. AML/KYC compliance applies to all transactions.
