Goldbacks resemble standard paper currency in shape but are made with thin layers of 24-karat gold. Initially introduced in Utah following the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2019, they serve as a voluntary currency, allowing transactions at the vendor’s discretion. Since then, additional states—Nevada, New Hampshire, Wyoming, South Dakota, Florida and Oklahoma—have each launched their own Goldbacks in subsequent years, with Arizona recently becoming the seventh state to adopt this unique form of currency.

About Arizona 100 Goldback
The 100 Arizona Goldback features the virtue Libertas celebrating the extraordinary story of the Navajo Code Talkers. Set before the monumental red rocks of Window Rock, Arizona—the seat of the Navajo Nation—this design portrays a Navajo Marine crouched in full WWII uniform, radio in hand, representing the hundreds of Navajo Marines who created the only unbreakable code of the war. Used in every major Marine assault across the Pacific, their code helped secure victories in battles including Guadalcanal, Okinawa, and Iwo Jima.
Towering above, Libertas embodies liberty and Navajo strength, wearing traditional adornments including a concho belt, squash blossom necklace, and woven dress patterns. She holds a spear symbolizing protection of land and people, and her seven-spiked crown radiates freedom. Eagles soar overhead as symbols of vigilance, while Marines move among cactus and desert stone below. The seal of the Navajo Code Talker Museum affirms the partnership with the Navajo Nation.
This Goldback honors not only the Code Talkers’ wartime heroism but also the deeper truth that freedom is defended in many voices, and some of the strongest rose from Navajo. Written along the bottom is the enduring principle: “Our language was our strongest weapon.”
Goldbacks
The Goldback® is a revolutionary form of currency crafted from 24-karat gold, offering a reliable alternative as the American dollar continues to lose value. Each Goldback is designed to preserve purchasing power over time, addressing the age-old “small coin problem” by allowing people to make everyday transactions with real gold. While inflation erodes the value of paper currency, the Goldback’s intrinsic gold content ensures that it will hold its worth.
Recognized as legal tender in states like Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, New Hampshire, and South Dakota, Florida, and Oklahoma, Goldbacks can be traded or bartered like other non-current forms of currency worldwide. This currency blends gold’s enduring value with modern craftsmanship, providing a versatile and practical means of exchange that won’t depreciate, making it a sound choice for those seeking stability in their everyday spending.
